◈ Abstract : Recently, engineering company POSCON and IT company POSDATA were combined together to follow the big trends  of convergence technology. The first part of this seminar will give a brief introduction of the new company named POSCO ICT and its core technologies in the field of IT, control, instrumentation and those convergencies. In the second part, new standard(but not so new!) of talents are to be dealt with which are required from the university in the age of convergence.

Abstract

We are living in a convergence era with a full blossom of mobile communication devices, inter-net protocol (IP), computing and broadcasting. 4G (in ITU-word, IMT-Advanced) technology roadmap is generally conceived to be two major paths, namely a conventional cellular-based path (3G, 3G LTE and LTE-Advanced) and an IP –based path (IEEE 802.16e (mobile WiMAX) and 802,16m evolution). ITU-R finally allocated global broadband spectrum for IMT services out of WRC-07 and is undertaking a major milestone of MT-Advanced standardization. Until the last October Seoul meeting, WP 5D has completed IMT-Advanced requirements and evaluation doc-uments. And both 3GPP and IEEE 802.16 plan to submit their IMT-Advanced technology proposal by mid of 2009. And IMT-Advanced Specifications plan to be completed 1Q 2011,
In Korea, mobile WiMAX service will be fully deployed in major cities by end of 2008, and in US, Sprint-Nextel 4G (mobile WiMAX) network is being deployed nation-wide in a few years with a new open access concept. In open access, a proliferation of many different mobile devices is allowed to be connected to the network.
In summary, both 3G LTE-Advanced and IEEE 802.16m evolution are promising standard can-didates for IMT-Advanced. Standards development may follow the ITU time schedule. However, still new business applications and service developments are very much needed for differentiat-ing IMT-Advanced from 3G.

Abstract

Feedback Shift Register (FSR) sequences have been successfully implemented in many communication systems for their randomness properties and ease of implementation. These include ranging and navigation systems, spread spectrum communication systems, CDMA mobile communication systems, and crypto systems such as streamciphers.
This article gives a brief overview of FSR sequences, both linear and non-linear. Two conditions on the connection logic of FSRs for better output sequences are described, which are the branchless condition and the balanced logic condition. We use mostly the state transition diagram of an FSR to describe the property of its output sequences. For linear FSR sequences, we describe the relation between the connection polynomials and the structure of the cycle decomposition in the state diagram, and hence the periodicity of the output sequences.

Abstract

센서네트워크 기술은 최근 국내외에서 많은 관심을 가지고 있는 기술 분야로서 특히 국내의 경우는 u-City와 같은 유비쿼터스 신기술 응용의 인프라 기술로 인식 되고 있어 활발히 관련 기술 개발이 진행 중에 있다. 또한, 센서네트워크 기술은 cold chain이나 유통/물류 응용처럼, 기존에는 RFID 기술 응용 분야라고 생각 되던 분야에 센서 및 센서 네트워크 기술이 접목되어 유통/물류, 농수산물, 공산품 관련 산업의 효율성 및 안전성을 재고하는 방향으로 진화 되고 있는 상황이다.
하지만, 센서네트워크 기술은 무선 통신 특성과 높은 자원 제약성으로 인해 보안 관점에서 매우 취약하다는 단점을 가진다. 이에, 본 세미나에서는 센서네트워크가 가지고 있는 이러한 보안 취약성을 살펴 본 후, 이러한 보안 취약성 문제를 해결하기 위한 센서네트워크 보안 분야의 국내외 기술 동향을 소개할 예정이다. 그리고 암호 분야에서 인기를 모으고 있는 Pairing 기술을 센서네트워크에 적용하는 방안에 대해서도 살펴 본다.

Abstract

Global warming and CO2 emissions right have become popular themes in TV commercials. Today over 500 small power plants are generating electricity from funny-looking solar panels in Korea. Goverment and civil organizations are talking about privatizing electric industry and making electricity smart (!). Cheby Volt, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle has recently shined the new-tech section of internet media. How all of these far-fetched-sounding are connected to each other? How these technologies will affect your life?
In this talk I will try to connect these dot changes in a bigger picture answering these questions.
